coordinating and organizing international congresses and conferences on endocrinology, by facilitating collaboration among national and international endocrine and other learned societies and qualified persons interested in endocrinology and by publication of books, reports, and other papers related thereto.

Background

The International Society of Endocrinology (ISE) was established in 1960 to advance the profession and to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of endocrinology information exchange at international level.

Its worldwide membership comprises national endocrine societies from over 60 countries.

The ISE is the premier international organization for endocrinologists and associated scientific professionals in all settings including universities, industry, government agencies, health care facilities, and not-for-profit organizations.

Ms. Carol Kenny is currently Secretary for the ISE, working from the Department of Medicine, The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

ISE structure also includes two committees: (1) the Executive Committee, with representation from Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, UK and USA; and (2) the Central Committee, with representatives from all national member societies.

The ISE hosts international congresses. The most recent was held in Lisbon, Portugal (ICE 2004), and the next will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (ICE 2008). Thereafter ICE meetings will be more closely affiliated with national member societies.
