Member Profile : Uruguay : Uruguayan Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism
The Uruguayan Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism gathers around the country and consists of Honorary Members and Partners. It is directed by a Steering Committee and Fiscal Commission are elected every two years where the members exercise their right to vote and be elected. SUEM was created to fulfill the following purposes:
1) To encourage research in endocrinology, spread knowledge of this specialty and to encourage the study of health care problems
2) Conduct regular scientific sessions.
3) To organize conferences, round tables, symposia and conferences on issues of the specialty.
4) Organize the publication of scientific papers presented and approved by the Association.
5) Maintain links and / or organizations to integrate educational, scientific or union, national, foreign, regional or global purposes similar to this.
6) Promote Endocrinology action on health, social and labor.
7) Ensure the ethical aspects of the exercise of medicine in general and specifically in regard to endocrinology.
There are societies of this character in other Latin American countries and the rest of the world, grouped in the Pan American Federation of Endocrinology (FEPAEN) and the International Society of Endocrinology (ISE).
